the Choir Contact Details | Musical Director | Accompanist | Committee | Weddings Brisbane Concert Choir is an auditioned adult mixed-voice community choir of between 50 and 60 members drawn from all walks of life, based in Brisbane, Australia. Formed in 1996 by Dr Guy Jansen, it was directed by Christopher Kiver up until July 2002, then by Graeme Morton until the end of 2003. Following an extensive search for a new Musical Director, Debra Shearer-Dirié was appointed to the position in 2005. Brisbane Concert Choir quickly established an excellent reputation for its performances of diverse repertoire ranging from a cappella pieces to full symphonic works, including a number of Australian premieres. The choir regularly performs with the Sinfonia of St Andrew's and in 2000 performed Beethoven's Missa Solemnis with the Queensland Orchestra and Brisbane Chorale. Other highlights have included recorded performances for ABC Television and 4MBS Classic FM, as well as regular live performances in prestigious festivals such as Brisbane's Cathedrals' Week and the 4MBS Classic FM Festival of Classics. In 1999 the Choir embarked on a highly-successful ten-day tour of the North Island of New Zealand, and toured North Queensland in June 2002, shortly after the release of its first CD "Journey". The choir produced its second CD "Radiance" in 2008, before embarking on its first European tour to Prague, Salzburg and Vienna. Plans are well underway for the next tour to Italy in September 2011.
