Italy Tour September 2011 - Performances (page 1)
Wednesday 14 September - After converging on Milan from all directions of the compass on the previous day, we spent a half day touring that city, including a brief visit to The Last Supper, before heading off for our hotel at Mantova, which we used as a base for the next few days. Our first concert venue was the spectacular Santuario Madonna di Lourdes which overlooks the town of Verona. (Click the photos to see a larger version).

After a stunning view of sunset over Verona, we rehearsed and then presented our first concert for the tour to an appreciative audience, courtesy of our hosts Coro I Musici di Santa Cecilia di Verona.
Most of our concerts including this one started at 9.00pm, somewhat later than we are accustomed to in Australia, but we did our best to adapt to Italian ways.
Thursday 15 September - Another day, another concert venue, this time in the small community of San Benedetto del Po to the south of Mantova. After a guided tour of the Basilica Polironiana, housing amongst other treasures a collection of very old musical manuscripts, we rehearsed to find out how best to use the large space.
Following dinner at the local club, we relaxed around the square as the temperature of the day gradually dropped. As concert time approached, many of the local people arrived on foot or by bicycle to hear us.
At the conclusion of the performance, the choir received a presentation from the Festival organisers. Each choir member also received a book written by Bruno Ravagnani, who had migrated from this district to work in the Queensland sugar industry.
