Mass in B Minor - J. S. Bach

One of the Baroque period's most celebrated choral masterpieces, J. S. Bach's Mass in B Minor is also one of the most challenging and not frequently performed.

Its magnificence is often compared with that of Bach's St Matthew Passion which he composed around 1730. His Mass in B Minor was the last major work Bach composed before he died in 1750 and never heard performed in its entirety.  Much of the work comprises music that Bach had composed and set aside during his career or rewritten. It was not until 1859, more than a century after Bach's death in 1750, that the entire composition was performed at a single sitting. The Choir is pleased to be joined by the Sinfonia of St Andrew's for this performance.
